I’ve been wanting to dine at Tender Bar + Kitchen for a while now. The same owners from Verde own Tender Bar + Kitchen. Thus, I knew Tender was going to be good.
I love the interior of Tender! You can tell they tried to keep a lot of the original feel of the space (used to be Arsenal bank building). When I walked into the restaurant, I felt like I was stepping back into the 1920s (with cocktails to match).
My Mom & I decided to go for brunch on an (actually) warm Sunday in November. Here’s what we ordered:
My main dish: buckwheat pancakes with blueberry mascarpone and lavender maple syrup. Very good (although, not as good as the buttermilk pancakes at Verde)! I REALLY liked the blueberry mascarpone on top.
Tender summer sausage as one of my side. As Anthony Bourdain would say, “oh yeah, baby”! This was one of the best sausages I’ve EVER had!
Tender home fries– honestly, THE best home fries I’ve EVER had! I like that the home fry potatoes were nice big chunks. No wimpy pieces in the ‘burgh! Also, I like the addition of the green onions on top of the home fries.
My two brunch drinks: U.S.S. Richmond punch (Jamaican rum, cognac, curaçao, ruby port, black tea and lemon) and fresh-squeezed orange juice. This is how you brunch!
My Mom’s brunch: french toast with persimmon compote, whipped cream and maple syrup. This was REALLY good! 😀 Words cannot describe the genius behind this dish.
