My Mom & I dined at Gordon Ramsay’s Pub & Grill on the first day of our Vegas vacation. Ever since we watch Haylie Duff consume a scotch egg on her Real Girl’s Kitchen show, we’ve been dying to try one! Also, I’m a big Gordon Ramsay fan (I love his show called Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares).

Devil's on Horseback

Dish #1: Devil’s on Horseback. Honestly, I was expecting these to be as good as the appetizer at Meat & Potatoes, but they weren’t. Even so, this was still a good appetizer (the bacon was really good)!

Scotch Egg

Dish #2: Scotch Egg with bacon, HP sauce and vegetables. Dish #2 WELL made up for dish #1! This dish was AMAZING! A soft boiled egg that’s fried, with bacon sprinkled on top, dipped in HP sauce- you can’t go through with that! Great textures and smells, too!

Toad-in-the-Hole

Dish #3: Toad-in-the-Hole! Ever since I saw Donnie & Paul Wahlburg try this dish on Wahlburgers, I knew I had to have it! I must say, this was the best dish of the day! You can’t go wrong with sausage wrapped in a croissant-like dough! Plus, the sauces were great (HP and horseradish).

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Dish #4: The piece-de-resistance: Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream! Β The brown cake was absolutely FABULOUS! So moist! The vanilla ice cream paired perfectly with the cake and the brown sugar caramel that was drizzled on top. Actually- the brown sugar caramel DRENCHED the vanilla ice cream and cake. I admit- this is THE best dessert I’ve ever had! Gordon Ramsay totally made me forget that I wasn’t having chocolate for dessert. Good job, mate! πŸ™‚

All in all, a great meal, and one of the culinary highlights of my Las Vegas trip!

Three cheers to good food, fabulous art & cultural events,

Sometime in September (before the official start of fall), my Mom stumbled across the former spot of Crepes Parisiennes‘ Shadyside location. Now, there’s a new Crepe place in that spot, and it’s called Cafe Moulin.

When you step into the cafe, you really do feel like you’re sitting in a little cafe in Paris, but NO- it’s Pittsburgh (and Shadyside, no less)!

I ordered an Alaskan crepe (smoked salmon, creme fresh, dill with green onions on the top). Wow! This was one of the best crepes I’ve ever had! I don’t think Cafe Moulin will have any trouble bringing in business to its cafe!

Wigle Whiskey
Wigle Whiskey’s Distillery in Pittsburgh’s Historic Strip District neighborhood

Towards the end of September, I was lucky enough to attend a cocktail class with Wes Shonk of Wigle Whiskey! We learned how to make some of the classic cocktails, such as an Old Fashioned (one of my favorites)! Also, we received a tour of the distillery (where the lovely Wigle Whiskey spirits are made)! πŸ˜€

On the very last Saturday of September (28th), my Mom and I returned to the Strip District for the monthly Neighborhood Flea event (a pop-up Flea Market, created & organized by Carrie Nardini of the I Made it! Market). Also, we visited the Pittsburgh Public Market, Enrico Biscotti, Mon Aimee Chocolat, Penn Mac and the PGH Crepe cart. πŸ™‚

The highlight of the trip was this SCRUMPTIOUS taco from the PGH Taco Truck:

Chorizo Taco from PGH Taco Truck

This is the best taco I’ve EVER had in my entire life! Pittsburgh (and visitors): if you ever have a chance to dine from the PGH Taco Truck, order the Chorizo taco (and tell James the owner that the Friendly Pittsburgh Foodie sent you!). The Chorizo for this taco is made by Chef Keith Fuller of Root 174. You really can’t go wrong with this meal! I recommend ordering a Mexican Coke, too (it tastes better than the regular coke)! A taco plus a coke for $8? You can’t be that price and quality of food! πŸ˜€

Stay tuned, foodies! Soon, I will be posting about my Las Vegas vacation!

Three Cheers to good food, fabulous art & cultural events,
