During the first weekend of July, Anthrocon arrived in Pittsburgh! This year, I made it my own personal mission to meet “the furries”!Β

I forged a plan to treat my Mom and myself to brunch in downtown Pittsburgh and to casually run into the Furries and, you know, perhaps take a few pictures with them. πŸ™‚

I LOVED the Stormy Morning cocktail from Ten Penny! This was the second time I ordered the Stormy Morning cocktail, and it was just as good (perhaps even better) than the first time!Β

Pork Belly Hash from Ten Penny
Pork Belly Hash from Ten Penny

For brunch, I ordered the Pork Belly Hash.Β Ever since I tried pork belly for the first time at Grit & Grace in January, I’ve been obsessed with anything pork belly! My favorite part of this brunch was dipping the toast through the egg yolk of the sunny side up egg! πŸ˜€ The toast was really good (and the yolk of the egg), but I didn’t care for neither the rest of the sunny-side up egg nor the pork belly. The pork belly tasted like it might’ve been cooked too long. I also wonder if I’m spoiled (when it comes to pork belly)- I’m just used to the way that Grit & Grace and Meat & Potatoes serve their pork belly dishes. :-/

Smoked Salmon
Smoked Salmon brunch

Never fear, dear bloggers! My Mom ordered the smoked salmon brunch and I REALLY liked that! πŸ˜€ I just had a few bits of her smoked salmon, and it was REALLY good! Smoked salmon is one of those foods that I could enjoy any time. πŸ™‚

After lunch, it was time for operation meet the furries! πŸ˜€

Anthrocon 2014

First, I met two very friendly foxes! πŸ˜€

Next, I met a very talkative and amicable furry, who based his character from the T.V. show “The Prisoners”! πŸ˜€

Lastly, I met the two cutest furries of the day: a cat and a dog! πŸ˜€

Switching gears back to brunch: I haven’t given up on Ten Penny quite yet! I will have to return for drinks & dessert (one of my Twitter friends said the restaurant’s desserts are VERY good)! I do enjoy Ten Penny’s Stormy Morning cocktail and the S’mores cocktail! πŸ˜€

Β

That’s all for now, blogging friends!

Three Cheers to good food, wonderful art, and enjoyable cultural events,

Fried Rice with Chicken Thigh

Fried Rice w/ Chicken Thigh from Grit & Grace, before the Ben Folds Concert! Soooooooo good! πŸ˜€ The best fried rice I’ve ever had!

Shot #1 of the Brownie Caramel Granola dessert from Grit & Grace- a chocoholic & caramel lover’s dream come true!

Brisket Sliders

Brisket Sliders at Trax Farms’ Summer Wine Festival! I ordered these from the Big Black GrillΒ Catering Company. As Anthony Bourdain would say: “oh yeah, baby; the good stuff“! πŸ˜‰

Oh My Grill! Number One Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Also, I ordered the “Number One” grilled cheese sandwich at the Trax Farms’ Summer Wine Festival! This was from the Oh My Grill! (Grilled Cheese) Food Truck! Once again, the gentleman taking orders in the truck was extremely kind & helpful!

PGH Pierogi Truck Potato & Cheese Pierogies

Well folks, I FINALLY ordered some pierogies from the PGH Pierogi Truck! These are potato & cheese pierogies, with onions sprinkled as a garnish. Let me tell you: these were some of THE BEST pierogies I’ve EVER had! πŸ˜€ The Pierogi Truck was present at last weekend’s South Side Works Exposed Festival.

Poutine

Of course, I had to order from multiple food trucks (but let me assure you, I had a friend assisting me to consume the poutine). The next order of business: poutine from the Franktuary food truck! INCREDIBLE! πŸ˜€ I’ve had this once before; the fries are cooked to perfection! I really like the vegan gravy and the cheese curd as well. This was also from the South Side Works Exposed Festival.

BRGR Turkey Burger with a Lettuce Wrap

It might be hard to tell, but there’s a delicious BRGR Average Joe Turkey Burger hiding beneath all of that lettuce! I wished to enjoy a burger, but I tried to make it health(ier) as well. Thus, I chose the “Average Joe” burger (which came with tomato, onion and a slice of provolone cheese), but I made it a turkey burger. πŸ™‚ Also, I replaced the usual hamburger bun with a lettuce wrap (to cut down on calories). You can have your burger, and eat it, too! πŸ™‚ Also from the South Side Works Exposed festival.

BRGR Peanut Butter Milkshake

The last (food) treat of the day from the South Side Works Exposed festival was the shake of the day from the BRGR Food Truck: the Peanut Butter Milkshake! This was VERY tasty!

Espresso A Mano

This photo was taken at today’s Lawrenceville adventure, which started at Espresso A Mano! πŸ˜€

Stay tuned for an upcoming post, featuring brunch at Ten Penny (in Downtown Pittsburgh) and Anthrocon 2014! πŸ˜€
